چکیده

Previous studies from this laboratory (1-4) have shown that: 1) there is a statistically significant increase in the mean urinary aldosterone excretion from groups of patients with essential, renal or malignant hypertension, as compared with that of normal subjects similarly studied; 2) 43 per cent of patients with essential hypertension have urinary aldosterone values above normal limits; 3) there is an excessive fluctuation of daily urinary aldosterone in hypertensive patients, from normal to above normal levels, which is most prominent in the early phase of the disease; and 4) mean urinary preglnanetriol is significantly decreased (p < 0.001) in the same groups of hypertensive patients, and the pregnanetriol/aldosterone ratio is below the lower limits of normal range in 92 per cent of all patients studied with arterial hypertension. The findings of a mean increase in urinary aldosterone and of its excessive daily fluctuation in hypertensive patients have recently been confirmed by Romanelli, Biancalona and Matterazzi (5), Venning, Dyrenfurth, Dossetor and Beck (6) and Schwartz (7). However, Laragh and co-workers (8), using a method devised by Ulick, Laragh and Lieberman (9) for the measurement of aldosterone secretion rate, found normal values in 8 patients with benign essential hypertension and significantly increased secretion rates in 5 of 8 pa-

Effects of angiotensin subtype 1 and subtype 2 receptor antagonists in normotensive versus hypertensive rats.

The purpose of this study was to examine in vivo the importance of angiotensin subtype 1 (AT1) versus subtype 2 (AT2) receptors in spontaneously hypertensive (hypertensive) versus normotensive Wistar-Kyoto (control) rats. Intravenous infusions of DuP 753, a selective AT1 receptor antagonist, abolished the pressor responses to intravenous infusions of angiotensin II in both strains, and the pote...

Calcium antagonists decrease adrenal and vascular responsiveness to angiotensin II in normal man.

1. The effect of the calcium antagonist nifedipine on the pressor and aldosterone responses to angiotensin II was studied in six normal subjects. 2. Blood pressure, pulse rate and plasma aldosterone, potassium and cortisol were measured during paired consecutive infusions of angiotensin II (5, 10 and 20 ng min-1 kg-1) on two separate occasions. Nifedipine (20 mg by mouth) was given, 30 min befo...

The effects of endopeptidase 24.11 inhibition on angiotensin-induced changes in plasma angiotensin II, aldosterone, and atrial natriuretic factor concentrations and blood pressure were assessed in normal volunteers. Two groups, each consisting of eight normal volunteers, received stepwise infusions of angiotensin II (2, 4, and 8 ng/kg per minute) on day 5 of dose administration with 25 mg every...

The effects of Mas receptor antagonist (A779) and renal perfusion pressure on serum nitrite concentration in male and female rats when angiotensin II receptors 1 & 2 were blocked

Introduction: Renin angiotensin system has an important role in blood pressure and renal functions. Active angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 converts angiotensin I into angiotensin-(1-7) which is a vasodilator hormone and interacts with nitric oxide changes as well as other angiotensin II receptors. In this study we evaluated the role of Mas receptor antagonist (A779) and renal perfusion press...

Hyperinsulinemia and the aldosterone and pressor responses to angiotensin II.

To determine whether hyperinsulinemia alters angiotensin II-mediated aldosterone secretion, the increase in plasma aldosterone after intravenous angiotensin II (5, 10, and 20 ng/kg/min for 15 minutes each) was measured before and after euglycemic hyperinsulinemia in seven chronically instrumented dogs. In a random sequence on 4 successive days, dogs received either 0, 2, 4, or 8 milliunits/kg/m...
